Four Maternity Fashion Brands We Love

Gone are the days that new mums and mothers-to-be existed exclusively in Mothercare basics and M&S nursing bras. Maternity, whether we like it or not, is now a style industry all of its own. And while there’s still a place for those great institutions our own mothers relied on back in the seventies and eighties, there’s a whole host more to choose from today: in short, it’s never been a more fashionable time to become a mummy. So here’s our scoop on the hottest maternity brands of 2016.

1. Tiba + Marl

Tiba & Marl Backpack

Changing up the image of the baby changing bag, Tiba + Marl make gorgeous unisex sports-luxe backpacks and chic totes and holdalls, all in trendy graphic prints and super sleek finishes. These fashion-forward investment pieces for mums (and dads) offer a life beyond nappies, bottles and changing mats, transitioning seamlessly into gym bags, travel luggage and clutches. Its founders come from Urban Outfitters, Topshop and Kurt Geiger, so they’d know a thing or two about combining practical design with a thoroughly modern edge. Tiba + Marl also sell super-cool kids’ backpacks, and stroller clips for hanging your tote off the buggy handles. We’re in love with their Etta Floral Changing Clutch. Follow Tiba + Marl on Instagram for a daily dose of game-changing inspiration.

2. Merci Maman

Parisian jeweller in London Merci Maman is a favourite of Kate Middleton’s, and their forte is delicately engraved necklaces, rings and bracelets as beautiful maternal keepsakes. Not a maternity essential per se, but this is a website certainly worth ‘mentioning’ as Mother’s Day approaches. New mothers can celebrate those precious names, special dates and vital weights by immortalising them on an eternity trio necklace.

Parents welcoming new additions to the family can add a new engraved charm to a pretty Liberty Bracelet. Most designs are available in silver plated, gold plated and – our personal favourite – rose gold plated. Just in case anyone asks…

3. Anchor and Hope

Anchor & Hope

Nope, not a pub – Anchor and Hope is mummy retail heaven: an all-things-maternity boutique in East London. Chock-full of locally-made items for mothers and children and hip brands like Tiba+Marl, this little gem stocks a range of high quality maternity wear from brands you know and love: samples, shops seconds and past-season pieces from the High Street to designer. Think of this interiors and clothes shop as a carefully curated TK Maxx for your maternity chapter. Oh, and they’ve got a play area and great baby changing facilities, naturally. You’ll find Anchor and Hope at 363 Roman Road, Bow, E3 5QR.

4. Mothers Meeting

An events, networking, publishing, learning and community-building powerhouse, Mothers Meeting, among many other things, runs inspirational talks for mothers at Shoreditch House. Their next guest speaker is undeniably hip Mama, Cherry Healey, and their beautiful coffee-table book came out last year. A general go-to manual for the modern mother, How To Be a Hip Mama Without Losing Your Cool makes an inspired baby shower gift too, if you’re looking for something a little different.
